About Me

The “Ohio Smoked Meat and Barbeque Festival” originated in 1996 as the first official state of Ohio championship for smoked meat and BBQ, proclaimed by the governor of Ohio. The competition is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society.

The Nelsonville Area Chamber of Commerce organizes and leads this Ohio classic of barbecue. The competition takes place on the streets of downtown Nelsonville, Ohio, and the historic Public Square and arts district. The BARBECUE SPIRIT is strong in Nelsonville.

Brick Street BBQ 2012. June 8th - 9th, 2012 in Marietta, OH

The 2012 Brick Street BBQ, hosted in Historic Downtown Marietta is ON for this year!  Join us June 8th-9th for this KCBS Sanctioned Event, and the first stop on the Ohio Triple Crown series sponsored by Patter Fam Sauces.  Not to mention the $10,000 in prize monies which will be presented to you by the crowned Miss. Brick Street BBQ! 

Attached is the Official Entry Form for the 2012 Brick Street BBQ, as well as the awards and prizes breakdown. Marietta is honored to have the opportunity to host such a fun and friendly group, if there is anything we can do to make your travel and stay easier, let us know. This year The Colony Theatre has partnered with ReSTORE Marietta, a local non-profit, to help administer the event.  Besides this exciting new partnership, the competition will continue in the same format as the previous years, with a few new additions!   This year we have a schedule full of fun activities for the competitors and the community to enjoy, including;

·        Bull Riding Competitions

·        Fire Dancers

·        Kids Zone for the little ones

·        Auto and Motorbike Tour on State Route 26, one of Life Magazines “Top 40 Most Scenic Drives in America.”

·        Miss Brick Street BBQ Competition

·        Celebrity Cook-Off

·        Local Live music

·        Friday Marietta Merchants and Artists Walk featuring local Appalachian Artisans and extended hours of our historic districts shops and boutiques.

So bring the family, friends, and even the dog, because Marietta is going BIG for BBQ!

We need to know how many teams will be participating in the Peoples Choice category on Saturday in Nelsonville.  Remember no team is required to enter this category, and we will be providing the 2 pork butts to be cooked.  I have attached a complete copy of the rules for your information.

Please Email us back with your intentions by 12 noon, Tuesday, October 11, 2011.  This will give us the time needed to order the meat required for this category.  Thank you for your assistance!!

Nelsonville BBQ Festival Entertainment Ready to go for Next Weekend!!

The Nelsonville Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to sponsor the 15th Annual “Ohio Smoked Meat and Barbecue Festival”, on October 14th and 15th on the historic Nelsonville Public Square.

The “Ohio and Smoked Meat and Barbeque Festival” originated in 1996 as the first official state of Ohio championship for smoked meat and BBQ, proclaimed by the governor of Ohio.  The competition is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society.  Dozens of professional competitive BBQ teams from around the country will be competing in the following categories; chicken, pulled pork, pork ribs and beef brisket.

Teams will be cooking on both the 14th and the 15th with judging on the afternoon of the 15th. The teams will be competing for $10,000 in total cash prizes with the Grand Champion bringing home $3000.

The festival will also be holding a “Peoples Choice” competition on the 15th. BBQ teams will be preparing Pulled Pork BBQ for judging.  The public will be able to taste the offerings from the teams at the “Peoples Choice: tent, while samples last. The “Peoples Choice” winner will be determined from votes of people sampling the BBQ.

On Friday the 14th in the evening a karaoke contest will be held at the main stage with a $500 1st place prize.  Karaoke music will be provided by DJ Jim Michael.  Karaoke rules, registration form and information is available at www.ohiobbq.org.  On Saturday the 15th the festival will welcome the music of Arnett Howard and Friends at the main stage.
